The doctors and staff at SEGO are committed to improving the treatment and outcomes for our patients who have cancer. One of the best ways to do this is to participate in quality clinical trials. Clinical trials are research studies that test new drug treatments for cancer and other diseases. Some clinical trials test drugs that are experimental and other trials use FDA approved drugs in new doses, different combinations of drugs, or use drugs for different diseases than the ones they were originally approved to treat.

It is most important that clinical trials are performed under strict guidelines to conform to all legal and ethical standards for safe treatment of humans. At SEGO, we have a dedicated research team that is committed to excellent compliance with all regulatory standards to provide safe participation in clinical trials for our patients. Our doctors closely oversee all research that is performed and are constantly aware of research issues and patient experience on our trials. Our patients are always more important than the research we may offer them.

SEGO has clinical trials for newly diagnosed and for recurrent ovarian, cervical, endometrial, and vulvar cancers. Every trial has eligibility criteria that protect the patient’s safety by making sure she is healthy enough to tolerate the treatment without undue risk. Eligibility criteria also ensure that all the patients participating in the trial are very similar and do not have other problems that will interfere with the results of the treatment. If your doctor thinks you might be eligible for one of our clinical trials that would be beneficial to you, he or she will discuss this with you and have one of the research team members explain the trial in great detail to you and your family. Participating in clinical trials is always voluntary, therefore, it is important for you to understand the trial so you can make an informed decision. Refusal to participate in a clinical trial will not influence how your doctor feels about you or how he or she treats you in the future.
