Individuals and their families are different, therefore they may react to the diagnosis of cancer and the treatment that follows in a wide variety of ways.

It is normal to react to learning you have cancer, or any serious illness with worry, sadness, and anger. Yes, it is OK to feel any or all of these emotions; but it is also important not to let them take over your life.

Some people may feel anxious or even isolated-despite being surrounded by those who love and care about them- and others just the opposite. It is not unusual to experience a feeling of loss of control in your life, to be frightened about what the future will bring, or to grieve about the loss of health. These feelings, and others, range in intensity from person to person and sometimes from one day to the next.

Many find that counseling helps them manage the complications that being a cancer patient can add to living.

In addition to the physicians and nurses on your healthcare team, Dr. Aaron Karnilow, who works with the emotional and psychological issues associated with cancer, is here to help you and your family members.

Appointments are available on Tuesdays from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm at the Northside office and are scheduled through the front desk at the time of your physician's visit or by calling (678) 420-4100.
